Ocean Springs does quick pre-season fix to stadium bleachers
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Days before the start of football season, a Mississippi high school is replacing some dangerous bleachers.
Inspectors found problems with the visitors’ side seating at the 53-year-old Greyhound Stadium in Ocean Springs. The metal bleachers had bent or broken steps, broken or missing guard rails and rust throughout the structure.
The Mississippi Press reports that a crew started tearing down the metal bleachers Wednesday.
Tri-Star Demolition and Slab Removal is scheduled to finish tearing down and taking away the stands by Monday.
That leaves four days for the school district to bring in portable bleachers for visitors to use this season. School board members agreed to spend $35,000 on the temporary fix.
