Clear Springs’ Green takes two top basketball honors

Jermia Green of Clear Springs was selected newcomer and defensive player of the year in voting on the all-District 24-6A girls’ basketball team while Alvin’s Andreea Mancha was selected as the league’s most valuable player.

Other top honors went to Tara Kessner of Clear Lake, offensive player of the year, and Justin Walker of Alvin, coach of the year.

First-team members included Green, Vianey Galvan, McKenna Worrell and Niya Johnson of Clear Springs; Kessner, Savannah Lyde and Reese Schumann of Clear Lake; Lauryn Small, Josephine Adegbite and Alexis Clayborne of Clear Falls; Lauren Sinclair and Eliya Ellis of Clear Creek; Alyssa Berry of Clear Brook; and Mancha of Alvin.

Second-team selections included Blaise Blair and D’nea Johnson of Clear Springs; Mercedes Mancha of Alvin; Macie Illyes and DeAzhia Smith of Clear Creek; Niah Richard, Piper Stephenson and Morgan McGaugh of Clear Falls; Hailey Henry and Veyda Lake of Clear Brook; and Katie Edmonds and America Llanes of Clear Lake.
