Sischo earns state berth for 3rd consecutive year: Castillo will represent River Valley in 400- meter dash, Reese set to do likewise in discus
MOHAVE VALLEY — Lady Dust Devils senior Hailey Sischo is no stranger to competing against the best.
The River Valley High School standout will be competing in the girls 100-meter hurdles at the 2019 Division III Arizona
State Track and Field Championship today and Saturday.
“Hailey was ninth in state in the 100-meter hurdle until like a week ago and has a great opportunity to see the podium,” said Dust Devils head track and field coach Jonathan Clark by email. “If she lets her competitiveness get the best of her, I think she will — great athlete.”
Senior Mason Reese also will be representing River Valley in the discus-throwing competition.
“Mason has added 13 to 14 feet from last year in discus,” Clark said. “He consistently throws about 125, but he has the potential to throw in the 130s — just hasn’t done it in a meet yet.
“(It) would be great if Friday was that meet.”
Junior Alex Castillo is set to compete in 400 dash for River Valley.
“Alex Castillo got in on a last-chance meet (Alhambra High School) where he had a personal record and improved by almost a half of a second in 400 dash,” said the first-year River Valley head coach. “I love his competitiveness.
“You put him beside fast guys and he gets faster, too.
“He hates to lose.
“I think he will PR, yet again, this Friday. As our lone junior, this will be a great experience for him going into next year.”
