Patrick Mahomes keeps impressing -- and breaking records

October 2, 2018

The NFL season is only four games in, but there appears to be a clear front-runner for this year’s MVP.

Enter Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had another impressive showing Monday, leading his team to a 27-23 win over the Denver Broncos. Mahomes, who was drafted with the 10th pick in 2017 and in his first full year as a starter, threw for 304 yards and a touchdown.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Mahomes threw for 192 yards outside the pocket the most in the past 10 years.

Mahomes spent all but one game of last season behind Alex Smith, who is now with the Redskins. But it was clear the Chiefs viewed him as the heir apparent, trading up to draft the Texas Tech product with the 10th overall pick. Kansas City dealt Smith to Washington in the offseason.

Under Chiefs coach Andy Reid, Mahomes has been electric. Through four games, he leads the NFL in touchdowns with 14, is second in passer rating among starters (126.5) and 11th in passing yards with 1,200.

Mahomes also broke Peyton Manning’s record last week for most passing touchdowns in the first three games of the season.
