‘Wimpy Kid’ author opens bookstore in downtown Plainville

PLAINVILLE, Mass. (AP) — Children’s author Jeff Kinney, who penned the popular “Wimpy Kid” series, has opened a bookstore in downtown Plainville.

The Sun Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1HXh0w2 ) dozens of residents turned out for Friday’s opening of the colonial-style building, built largely with recycled materials.

Kinney, co-owner with his wife, took three years to construct the building that now houses the “An Unlikely Story” bookstore, coffee shop, meeting room and studio.

The building replaced a local market which had fallen into disrepair.

Town Administrator Joseph Fernandes says Kinney’s commitment to the community is even more impressive than his building.

Residents and Plainville officials say the building could help revitalize downtown and create a focal point for the community.
