EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Denzel Mahoney scored a career-high 36 points to lead Southeast Missouri State to an 86-74 victory over SIU-Edwardsville on Thursday night.

Mahoney's 36 points tied Murray State's Jonathan Stark for the Ohio Valley Conference single-game high this season and the Redhawks (9-11, 3-4) picked up their first Ohio Valley Conference road win.

Mahoney hit five 3-pointers, was 9 of 14 from the field and made 13 of 15 free throws. Ledarrius Brewer chipped in 11 points for Southeast Missouri State.

David McFarland made a career-high five 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead SIU-Edwardsville (7-11, 3-4). Jalen Henry added 11 points and Justin Benton had 10.

The Redhawks had their largest lead, 64-46 with 11:21 remaining. A 15-4 surge pulled the Cougars to 68-61 with 6:47 to go, but they didn't get closer.
