Man accused of being gang member arrested on drug charges
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Cranston man police say is a gang member has been arrested on federal drug trafficking and firearms charges.
Twenty-four-year-old Antonio Fortes was taken into custody Wednesday. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say they found crack cocaine, heroin and a loaded .45-caliber handgun with an extended magazine containing 32 rounds of ammunition during a search of Fortes’ home.
Agents say an investigation revealed Fortes had made several controlled purchases of crack cocaine.
U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Lincoln Almond ordered Fortes detained Thursday.
The case is being prosecuted by the office of United States Attorney Peter Neronha, which says Fortes is a member of the YNIC street gang.
It was not immediately clear if Fortes had an attorney.
