5 Kentucky jail deputies indicted in inmate death
CATLETTSBURG, Ky. (AP) — Five Kentucky jail deputies have been indicted following the death of an inmate.
Kentucky State Police said four of the five were arrested Friday and one was being sought. The four arrested are Zackary Messer of Ashland, Brad Roberts of Westwood, Colton Griffith of Flatwoods and Jeremy Mattox of Grayson. All are charged with first-degree manslaughter. Investigators haven’t been able to locate Alicia Beller of Putnam, West Virginia.
Police said they were called to the Boyd County Jail Nov. 29 and found 40-year-old Michael L. Moore deceased in the jail’s restraint chair. Police said Moore was intoxicated and that five jail deputies intentionally abused him or knowingly permitted his abuse and that the mistreatment caused Moore’s death.
It wasn’t clear whether the deputies were represented by lawyers who could comment on their behalf.
