May 15, 2019

One incumbent and several new candidates have filed to run for office on the second day of filing week.

Karen Stratton, incumbent councilwoman for the northeast Spokane district and political newcomer Christopher Savage both filed Tuesday. Savage, a Lyft driver, was the first candidate to announce he was running against Stratton.

Spokane resident Liz Fleming also filed to run against an incumbent, Lori Kinnear, while Naghmana Sherazi, another new candidate, has filed for a seat currently held by Councilman Mike Fagan, who is running for City Council President.

Several candidates also filed for Spokane Valley City Council positions Tuesday, including Michelle Rasmussen, Tim Hattenburg and Pat Stretch.

Rasmussen, who is running against incumbent Brandi Peetz, has previously run for a vacated seat on Spokane Valley City Council.

Tim Hattenburg and Pat Stretch would be running against incumbent Sam Wood, who has not filed yet.

In the first two days of filing, 114 candidates filed for 83 different offices.

Candidates have until 4 p.m. Friday to file.
