Woman gets 1 year, 1 months for FEMA fraud
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A Florida woman has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison for lying on an application seeking disaster relief benefits following Hurricane Irma.
Court records show that 46-year-old Sandreania Davis was sentenced Monday in Orlando federal court. She was convicted in December of filing a materially false statement in an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Prosecutors say Davis broke into an Orlando apartment and pretended to live there in September 2017, shortly after Irma hit the Florida Keys and traveled up the state’s Gulf coast. She used the apartment for a FEMA inspection while trying to obtain the relief benefits.
