Mother And Two Sons Die In Fire
BREWERTON, N.Y. (AP) _ A woman dropped two of her children out a window to safety before she and her two teen-age sons died in a fire that destroyed their house Wednesday, officials said.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department identified the victims as Patricia Roller, 39, and her sons John, 17, and Dan, 16.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight in their single-family home, officials said.
″We sent a couple of teams in to try to get upstairs, but when you have a house that’s fully charged with heat and flames like that, you just can’t get through,″ said Fire Chief John Hart.
Neighbor Salvatore Stassi said he went to the house and shouldered the front door down. Then Roller’s live-in boyfriend came out.
″He looked confused,″ Stassi said. ″I kept asking him, ‘Where is everybody? Where are they?’ He kept saying ’I don’t know.‴
Roller threw her 10-year-old son from the second floor and Stassi caught him. Then she threw down 7-year-old Maria, who landed on the ground, he said.
Her son Tommy was treated for minor injuries, and Maria was listed in serious condition Wednesday at University Hospital in Syracuse.
Roller’s boyfriend, identified as Ron Kingsley, 42, was treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
