Harold R. Clem, 77, of Momence, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2018) at his home.
He was born March 4, 1941, in Carlinville, the son of Harold and Ruth Townsend Clem. Harold married Nadine Beccue on Aug. 12, 1967, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Dianna Clem, of Bradley, and Brad Clem, of Wilmington; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Dennis and Teresa Clem, of Auburn, and Loretta Henderson, of Vera Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Dominic and Mwansa Pescetto and Michael Pescetto; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one granddaughter, Jessica Portillo.
Harold attended schools in Auburn and graduated from Springfield Junior College and Eastern Illinois University. He began his teaching career in 1966 at W. Pike High School in Kinderhook. He later taught social studies and the Constitution at Momence Junior High from 1968 until his retirement in 2000. He also worked for the city of Momence as a water meter reader.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Momence, where he served as trustee, elder and president of the congregation. Harold served as a Momence city alderman for two terms. He also served on the Chipman Library Board and was involved in Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts for many years. He was a member of the Illinois and Kankakee County Retired Teachers Associations.
Harold enjoyed reading, woodworking and fishing.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Cotter Funeral Home in Momence. An additional time for visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, until the noon funeral service at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Momence. The Rev. David Juhl will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mt. Airy Cemetery in Momence.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church of Momence, Kankakee Community College or Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
