Falcons rally in fourth quarter for 28-14 victory over Dawson
Clear Lake scored 21 fourth-quarter points to pull away from Dawson and take a 28-14 victory in a Class 6A Division II bi-district football game Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Falcons (7-4) will next take on Humble Summer Creek at noon Saturday in NRG Stadium in an area round matchup. Summer Creek defeated C.E. King, 29-28, in its bi-district matchup.
The Falcons trailed 14-7 until running back Brendan Holmes scored on a 36-yard run with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter, and Nathan Eastin kicked the second of his four extra points to tie the game at 14.
Holmes then scored again on a 22-yard run with 8:51 remaining to give Clear Lake the lead for good at 21-14.
The Falcons added an insurance touchdown with just 1:41 left when Adrian Cavazos scored on a 1-yard run.
Holmes rushed 27 times for 154 yards while Falcon quarterback Shae Suiaunoa completed 7 of 11 passes for 118 yards.
The Falcons took a 7-0 lead on a 10-yard run by Cavazos at 3:42 of the first quarter but Dawson (6-5) tied the game on Ja’Den Stewart’s 6-yard run with 3:32 left in the second quarter.
The Eagles then took their only lead of the game when Patrick Kramer threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Mason Pierce with 1:03 left in the third quarter.
Lake, though, stormed back in the final period to move ahead in the playoffs.
Dawson quarterback Patrick Kramer completed 11 of 25 passes for 127 yards while Pierce had five catches for 67 yards. Dawson’s leading rushers, Stewart and Bobby Wooden, had 45 and 44 yards, respectively.
