Shaw’s resignation accepted, plan in place for his replacement
The City Council approved a plan Monday to replace Councilman William “Cruz” Shaw, the District 2 representative who’s leaving his seat to become an associate judge at the Bexar County Courthouse.
The council will appoint a successor to hold the seat until the May municipal election. On Jan. 9, the council will review the qualified candidates before short-listing up to three for the Jan. 10 meeting at which one will be selected.
The appointed council person is not prohibited from seeking the seat in the May election.
Perhaps the most important task the new council member will face is the selection of a new city manager, a process that has already begun to unfold.
The council voted unanimously Monday to accept Shaw’s resignation but reserved time at a future council meeting for farewells.
