Beer calendar: 12 Dogs of Christmas release set, Sibling Revelry Brewery’s Angels on the Avenue fundraiser, more

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Great Lakes has set its Christmas Ale release dates, Ignite Brewing has scheduled its grand opening, Banter will feature cider and many other beer tastings and dinners are slated in Northeast Ohio. OCTOBER

October: Yard House will celebrate Oktoberfest with a selection of ’fest beers: Sam Adams Octoberfest, Weihenstephan Festbier, Ayinger Oktoberfest, Paulaner Oktoberfest Wiesn and Goose Island Oktoberfest. Each of the featured breweries will provide a limited-edition stein. Guests can order the featured beer of the week in a souvenir stein for $10 on top of the price of a half-yard. One stein will be offered per week through Sunday, Oct. 28. It’s at 160 Union St., Crocker Park, Westlake.

Monday, Oct. 1: Winking Lizard will begin selling a special Duvel glass. To receive the glass, guests have to ask for a Duvel passport at any Lizard and have three Duvel or Duvel Tripel Hop ales through Wednesday, Oct. 31. The company is marking 35 years in business this year.

Tuesday, Oct. 2: Platform Beer Co.’s Charitable Tuesday beneficiary is Merrick House at 3 p.m. A dollar sold of every Platform beer or cider will be donated. Platform is at 4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: The Wine Spot’s Growler Discount Day offers 20 percent off fills. It’s at 2271 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: Platform Beer Co. will release Project Zero for the second year. It’s at 6 p.m. The brewery is teaming with Fleet Feet Cleveland, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Mizuno. The ale is a Brut India Pale Ale brewed with hibiscus and an Inca tea blend. A dollar will be donated to the foundation for every Project Zero ordered. Food specials also will be included. It’s at 4125 Lorain Ave. and 3506 Vega Ave. in Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: Hofbrauhaus Cleveland will hold its monthly keg tapping at 6:45 p.m. at 1550 Chester Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: D’Agnese’s will hold a five-course beer dinner featuring Rhinegeist of Cincinnati at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $40. It’s at 566 White Pond Dr., at Interstate 77 in Akron.

Thursday, Oct. 4: Cuyahoga Community College will begin a four-week brewing class, held on Thursdays in October. Cost is $149, which includes parking. Classes take place at the Hospitality Management Center, 180 Euclid Ave. on Cleveland’s Public Square. Here are registration details.

Thursday, Oct. 4: Three Floyds Brewing will be featured at Townhall’s beer school at 8 p.m. Cost is $10 for five samples (includes Zombie Dust) and food. Townhall is at 1909 W. 25th St., Cleveland.

Thursday, Oct. 4: Market Garden Brewery will hold its seventh annual Pumpkin Beer Fest at 4:30 p.m. Highlight is a pumpkin firkin filled with Franklin Castle Pumpkin Ale. Guest beers and ciders will be available. It’s at 1947 W. 25th St., Cleveland.

Friday, Oct. 5: The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake will hold its annual Oktoberfest beer-tasting dinner 6-8 p.m. It will feature Clubhouse Brewing Co. from Warren. The brewery follows traditional German brewing techniques. The event will include an educational tasting reception with Clubhouse reps and a multi-course dinner with beer pairings. Beers to be served include Oktoberfest Märzen, Blackjack India Pale Ale, Deuces Wild Doppelbock and Valhalla’s Finest Russian Imperial Stout. Friday, Oct. 5: Cascade Locks Park Association, stewards of the historic Mustill Store, is partnering with Lock 15 Brewing Co. to host Locktoberfest 5:30-8:30 p.m. It includes German food, beer, 50-50 and pumpkin raffles. It’s at 21 W. North St., Akron.

Friday, Oct. 5: Thirsty Dog Brewing Co.’s Oktoberfest will be held at Lock 3 on Main Street in downtown Akron. This is the first day of the two-day event and held in conjunction with Hofbrauhaus Cleveland.

Friday, Oct. 5: The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will feature Hoppin’ Frog Brewery beers on its Emerging Brews ride. Ticket includes two-hour train ride, four samples, light appetizers and commemorative glass. Tickets start at $50. Train departs at 7:30 p.m. from Akron Northside station.

Saturday, Oct. 6: The Cleveland Brew Shop’s Beer and Brewing 101 class is noon-3 p.m. Cost is $30 (one person), $40 (two). Includes class, tasting, lunch and a gallon of beer. It’s at 4142 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Saturday, Oct. 6: Platform Beer Co. will release BA Panic Switch Barleywine brewed in collaboration with Wolf’s Ridge Brewing and Like Versus Love New England-style IPA at 10 a.m. It’s at 4125 Lorain Ave. and 3506 Vega Ave. in Cleveland.

(You can try other Sibling Revelry beers not part of the dinner at 5:30 p.m.) Beer-dinner pairings include Swing State Dry Hopped Pale Ale, Red, Ohio Native Festbier and Lavender Wit. Friday, Oct. 12: Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. is tapping 12 Dogs of Christmas, its Christmas ale. It’s at 3 p.m. at 1075 Old River Road in Cleveland’s Flats East Bank, with $1 from each pint going to Friends of Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter 5-6 p.m. and photos with Santa 4-7 p.m. It’s also being tapped at 587 Grant St., Akron, at 12:25 p.m. with proceeds supporting One of a Kind pet rescue.
