Ex-Judson College student files sexual harassment lawsuit
MARION, Ala. (AP) — A former student is suing Alabama’s Judson College and a former employee on accusations of sexual harassment and Title IX violations.
News outlets report Alexis Burt’s lawsuit filed last month in U.S. District Court accuses 39-year-old J. William McFarland Jr. of offering her $2,000 in May for sexual roleplay. Burt’s attorney, Ashley Rhea, says in the suit that McFarland made the lewd suggestions in Facebook messages he sent the then-19-year-old.
Rhea says administrators of the Baptist-affiliated all-women’s school in Marion should’ve done more to protect Burt and potentially other women McFarland encountered.
The former special assistant to the college’s president for business development tells The Tuscaloosa News in a statement through his lawyer that the allegations are false and an extortion attempt.
Interim President Scott Bullard says Judson opposes sexual harassment.
