WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Brian Loyd hit two homers and drove in six runs Friday night as Cal State-Fullerton beat Rice 7-3 in the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Kirk Irvine (12-3) held Rice to two runs over six innings for the victory and Luis Estrella got his fifth save.

Mark Kotsay got on base four times when he singled, walked twice and was hit by a pitch from Shawn Onley (7-3). Kotsay had reached base 10 straight times in the tournament before a diving catch by right fielder Jeff Venghaus ended the streak.

Tim McLaughlin was 3-for-4 with two doubles for Rice (40-22) and Venghaus had two hits and one RBI.

Cal State-Fullerton (45-14), which pounded out 18 hits against Delaware in the opening game, had seven hits against three Rice pitchers.

The Titans play Wichita State on Saturday in the winner's bracket, while Rice plays Indiana in an elimination game.
