Suspect in 2016 deaths extradited to Virginia from Ethiopia
FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — A 24-year-old man wanted in the 2016 slayings of two northern Virginia residents has been arrested in Ethiopia and extradited to Virginia on murder charges.
Fairfax County Police on Monday announced the arrest of Yohannes Nessibu. He’s been under indictment since 2017 for the December 2016 slayings of 22-year-olds Henok Yohannes and Kedest Simeneh. Their bodies were found in two separate homes in Springfield.
Police quickly identified Nessibu as a suspect but he flew to Ethiopia before police could arrest him.
Authorities said Monday that Nessibu’s arrest was the result of long, complicated negotiations between U.S. and Ethiopian authorities.
After a brief appearance Monday in federal court in Alexandria, Nessibu was taken to Fairfax, where he’ll stand trial.
Authorities did not discuss a motive but said Nessibu knew the victims.
