Argentine president must not follow the news
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentine President Cristina Fernandez must avoid following the news while she recovers from surgery for a cranial blood clot.
A congressional candidate from her party said Wednesday that the 60-year-old Fernandez has been advised to “keep from reading newspapers and following the news for some days.”
Martin Insaurralde confirmed local media reports saying doctors had asked her to avoid any stress and follow “strict repose.”
That period of rest would keep her out of the campaign for legislative elections on Oct. 27. Polls indicate that her party could suffer losses.
Fernandez underwent surgery on Oct. 8 to drain a blood clot that was pressing on her brain and causing pain. Officials said it was caused by a previously unreported blow to the head that she suffered on Aug. 12.
