Bernstein To Conduct Fund-Raising Concert
PARIS (AP) _ American maestro Leonard Bernstein will lead the Paris Orchestra on July 22 in a special fund-raising concert honoring his music teacher, Nadia Boulanger.
Miss Boulanger, who died in 1979 at the age of 94, long has been considered a major influence on the development of modern American music. Her unique approach to classical composition left lasting impressions on Bernstein, Aaron Copeland and Virgil Thompson, all of whom studied music in her tiny Paris apartment.
The proceeds of the one-night performance featuring Igor Stravinsky’s ″Rites of Spring″ will benefit the School of American Art in Fountainbleau.
