NEW YORK (AP) _ When the New York Mets return to Shea Stadium on Friday night, increased security following the World Trade Center attack will eliminate one of baseball’s time-honored traditions.

Fans will not be permitted to come down to the field level to watch batting practice. Instead, they will be asked to go directly to their seats and remain there during warmups.

The policy, only at Shea, will be put in place when the Mets open a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves and remain in effect for the rest of the Mets’ home games.
