HUNTINGTON — The winners of the Jane Hobson Shepherd Award for Vocal Excellence, Cierra James and Bryce Dale, presented a musical program at the Buford Chapter NSDAR Christmas luncheon held at the Guyan Golf and Country Club on Saturday, Dec. 8.

This award was made possible by Buford Chapter NSDAR through the generosity of Jane Hobson. Jane Hobson, well known Mezzo-soprano, came to Huntington in 1958 and soon joined the Marshall University faculty. Every year she would sing for the Buford Chapter Christmas luncheon, she was given a check, which she always gave back to the chapter. The money had been set aside for a music award.

Later in the evening, celebrations were turned over to Marshall University’s Music Department to be given to students for vocal excellence. This years recipients, Cierra James and Bryce Dale, gave a delightful program. They were accompanied by Mark Smith. Dr. Wendell Dobbs of the Marshall University Music Department introduced the winners.
