Calif. Kidnapper Gets Life Sentence
VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) _ A man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl was sentenced to life in prison Thursday as a packed courtroom cheered and applauded.
Curtis Dean Anderson, 40, plucked the girl off a Vallejo street and kept the girl chained to the passenger seat of his car. He refused to feed her, forced her to drink alcohol and repeatedly sexually assaulted her last August. She eventually escaped and flagged down a truck driver. Vallejo is about 30 northeast of San Francisco.
Anderson, found guilty in May of kidnapping and 10 sex charges, read a statement but did not apologize or express any remorse.
``People in the media are blowing this case way out of proportion,″ he said.
Anderson said he kidnapped and sexually assaulted 10 other girls, but has provided authorities with no evidence linking him to other crimes.
Among those claims, Anderson said he killed 7-year-old Xiana Fairchild, who disappeared from Vallejo in December 1999. Her skull was later found on a rural road in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
There have been no arrests in that case.
