Minnesota United declines contract option for long-time Loon Ibson
Minnesota United made its end-of-season roster moves on Monday, returning loaned midfielders Maximiano and Alexi Gomez to their clubs and declining contract options on Ibson, Fernando Bob, Jerome Thiesson and Collin Warner among the many decisions made.
A 35-year-old midfielder from Brazil, Ibson joined the franchise in 2015 while the team played in the North American Soccer League and started 52 of 58 games in that time.
Maximiano returns to his Fluminense team in Brazil and Gomez to Universitario de Deportes in Peru after their loan deals ended.
The Loons picked up contract options on defender Michael Boxall, midfielder Rasmus Schuller and goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth as well Carter Manley, Collin Martin and Wyatt Omsberg.
They also extended an offer to defender Eric Miller of Woodbury. The team is in contract negotiations with him.
United also declined contract options on Marc Burch, Matt Lampson, Frantz Pangop, Alex Kapp and Bertrand Owundi Ekoo as well. The contracts of Harrison Heath and Johan Venegas had expired without an option.
The moves leave the Loons with 16 of 30 roster spots filled.
Contracts for Darwin Quintero, Angelo Rodriguez, Francisco Calvo, Abu Danladi, Ethan Finley, Miguel Ibarra, Romario Ibarra, Brent Kallman, Kevin Molino and Mason Toye had already been guaranteed for the 2019 season.
