15 homes rebuilt in West Virginia flood recovery program

July 24, 2018

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia National Guard says 15 houses have been rebuilt in a flood recovery program.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports the Guard released its latest data Friday on RISE West Virginia’s house reconstruction progress. The program had seven houses finished July 13.

RISE secured roughly $150 million in federal funding last year to recover from June 2016 floods. It has 435 outstanding cases and among them 130 require total reconstruction and 89 await an assignment status.

Russell Tarry left his job administrating RISE as a scandal arose over the program’s progress. He now works for a firm tied to RISE’s largest contractor.

Adjutant General James Hoyer says the Guard intends to provide information on Tarry’s employment change to the Ethics Commission and others to see if there are any issues.
