Frenchwoman Wins Snowboard Race

AVORIAZ, France (AP) _ Karine Ruby of France won for the third time this season Saturday, capturing a World Cup snowboard cross event that gave her the lead in the discipline’s standings.

Jasey Jay Anderson of Canada won the men’s event at this French Alpine resort for his first victory this season. He moved into fourth place in his event’s standings.

Ursula Fingerlos of Austria was second among the women and Sandra Farmand of Germany was third.

With 4,050 points, Ruby took the standings lead, replacing Farmand, who is second with 3,690.

Among the men, Simone Malusa of Italy finished second and Guillaume Nantermod of Switzerland was third.

Pontus Stahlkloo of Sweden finished 10th, but with three victories this season he remains comfortably at the top of the standings, with 4,060 points.

Joni Vastamaki of Finland is second in the standings with 2,120 points.

Saturday’s event was moved to Avoriaz from the nearby Les Gets station because of insufficient snow.
