Hearing slated for Little River’s second casino
The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians’ plans for a second casino near Muskegon moved another step closer to reality last Friday as the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs published a notice of availability of a draft environmental impact statement in the federal register.
An environmental review of the former Great Lakes Downs racetrack site in Fruitport Township is ongoing, and the impact statement is a part of the process. The property is in the process of being placed in trust for the tribe by the federal government. Once the property is in trust, a casino may be developed.
A public hearing on the draft environmental impact statement hosted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs is at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, at Fruitport Middle School’s auditorium. The school is at 3113 E. Pontaluna Rd. in Fruitport.
