Marshall University volleyball sweeps LA Tech
RUSTON, La. — Marshall University’s volleyball team broke into the Conference USA win column Sunday with a 3-0 sweep of Louisiana Tech in the Thomas Assembly Center.
Marshall, now 8-10 for the season, is 1-3 in conference matches after winning, 25-20, 25-17, 25-21. LA Tech fell to 6-12 overall and 1-2 in the league.
“Our energy was really good today,” Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said in a release. “We were very good on the serve and pass game as well as on the defensive side of the ball. I felt that we were able to do enough on the block that our floor defense was able to take over and it really showed in sets two and three.
“Gabby (Coulter) distributed the ball very well and late in the match was able to find her middles and that helped us finding the match. I’m very proud of our team that they were able to close it out in three.”
Freshman Sarah Schank led the Thundering Herd with 10 kills and added 12 digs. Senior Shelby Conley and sophomore Ciara Debell both recorded nine kills and senior Lauren Mattmuller added seven. Coulter, a freshman, had 28 assists and junior libero Amber Weber had 16 digs.
Marshall is back home in Cam Henderson Center for an 11 a.m. Friday match with Western Kentucky.
