Bob Kolenberg Herbst is an engine of change
Republicans will be making an important choice next week, perhaps the most important choice in recent memory. Whoever wins the Republican primary will very likely be the next governor of Connecticut. That’s why it’s so important we pick the right candidate in the coming Aug. 14 Republican primary. I believe that candidate is Tim Herbst.
Every Republican candidate for governor is acknowledging the same glaring problems facing our state. Our pensions are catastrophically underfunded. Our infrastructure is crumbling. Our taxes are outrageously high and are driving our population to other states. Many of them will probably offer similar solutions to these issues, too. So the question of who should be our candidate has less to do with their “plan” but rather, who has the courage and determination to actually implement the plan.
Connecticut needs real fundamental change if it’s going to fix its growing problems. Tim Herbst was an engine of real fundamental change in Trumbull. Trumbull faced nearly every problem Connecticut faces now, from a broken pension system to failing schools. Under Tim’s leadership these problems were addressed and rectified. Trumbull was transformed. This wasn’t easy. Special interest groups and Democratic politicians crawled out of every hole and crevice to fight Tim on anything he proposed.
This doesn’t just apply to Trumbull. Stamford voters remember Al Barbarotta, the former Stamford Public Schools facilities manager who is currently under investigation by the FBI. When Barbarotta tried to spread his insider shenanigans to Trumbull schools, Tim put his foot down and stopped him. This came at great personal cost. Barbarotta sued Tim personally; he sent private investigators to harass Tim at his home. Did it stop Tim from doing what was right and standing against corruption? Of course not. Because Tim has something that I fear many of the candidates for governor don’t. Tim has guts. Tim is not scared off by threats and intimidation. Very few people, let alone politicians, have the courage of Tim Herbst. Tim has a proven track record of being fearless in facing down the labor unions, corrupt politicians, and career civil servants. Tim is the only Republican candidate with the internal fortitude to do what is necessary to save Connecticut.
When every left wing professional agitator in the country descends on Hartford to protest against the necessary changes our next governor will have to make to save this state, who do you trust to fight for you and your children’s future? Do you want someone who has surrounded themselves with insiders and lobbyists? Do you want another untested “outsider” who has never been in a public dog fight? Or, do you want a governor, like Tim, who did not take a dime from Hartford lobbyists? Do you want a governor who has been to battle and knows how to win? Do you want a governor who will not cut and run on the people of Connecticut, no matter how hard it gets, no matter how many slings and arrows our enemies throw at him? I know I do.
I urge Stamford Republicans to support the only candidate in this race who has the guts to stick up for us. I urge Stamford Republicans to support for Tim Herbst on Aug. 14.
