Developers still mum on Burlington downtown mall

August 27, 2019

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Developers of a mall in downtown Burlington, Vermont, are still not saying when construction will start and what changes are coming, after news broke last month that the mixed-use development would be scaled back.

Representatives from Brookfield Properties appeared before the Burlington City Council on Monday.

Vermont Public Radio reports that Brookfield Properties Vice President Aanen Olsen said the company is “100 % committed” to the CityPlace project, but he did not provide any details or timeframe, saying a pending lawsuit restricts what he can say publicly.

The lawsuit accuses the developer of changing the amount of parking in the project and violating the terms of a settlement in another lawsuit.

Many city councilors said they were frustrated with Brookfield’s lack of communication.
