Paulson to Host Investor Webinar Regarding Detour Gold

November 28, 2018

-- Investor webinar to take place on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 2 p.m. (ET) -- Shareholders urged to vote using only the GOLD proxy and submit prior to 5:00 p.m. (Toronto time) on Thursday, December 6, 2018

NEW YORK, Nov. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Paulson & Co. Inc. (“Paulson”), one of the largest, long-term shareholders in Detour Gold Corporation (TSX: DGC) (“Detour Gold” or the “Company”) invites Detour Gold shareholders to join a webinar on why wholesale change to Detour Gold’s Board of Directors is clearly necessary.

What: Investor webinar for Detour Gold shareholders When: Friday, November 30 at 2:00 pm (ET) to 3:00 pm (ET) Who: Hosted by John Paulson and Marcelo Kim Where: https://paulsoncoevents.webex.com/paulsoncoevents/onstage/g.php?MTID=e80e3d67a48855a17d8f82f0b7ee0825b

During the webinar, Detour Gold investors will learn how the Company’s Board has put its own interests ahead of those of shareholders and the Company, and how the core long-term directors have tried to hide the Board’s failures through poor disclosure, distraction and delay. More than $4 billion in shareholder value has been destroyed under the stewardship of the core long-term directors, but despite this value destruction the incumbent Board members have approved exorbitant compensation for themselves.

Detour Gold has already admitted its failings in governance and compensation by recommending that shareholders remove the current Chairs of the Board’s Governance Committee (Jonathan Rubenstein) and Human Resources and Compensation Committee (Lisa Colnett). However, real change will only come when shareholders hold the entire Board accountable, including long-term director, former Chair and current Interim CEO, Michael Kenyon (who is receiving 2x the salary of the former CEO), current Chair, Alex Morrison and the Chair of the Technical Committee, Ed Dowling (who has overseen technical failures of the mine). Despite being on the board for nearly three years, Mr. Dowling does not own a single common share of the Company. His most recent poor track record at Alacer, where he engineered a $1 billion take-over of Avoca only to sell the assets a few years later for $40 million, is only further proof that he must be voted off the Board. The other directors, including those recently appointed, must also be removed because they have not been engaged and have continued to support the self-interested and flawed decision-making of Detour Gold’s leadership and management.

There is a better way forward for shareholders. New independent and experienced director nominees have an action plan to enhance the value of Detour Gold, while being 100% aligned with the Company’s shareholders. The independent director nominees have committed to waiving the cash component of their compensation and replacing it with deferred share units that only get paid when directors retire and share-based awards that will only vest when Detour Gold’s share price outperforms its peers and its net asset value per share increases.

Momentum is behind the Concerned Shareholders

Paulson appreciates the overwhelming support that it has received during this process and the many shareholders who have already voted for real and substantive change to Detour Gold’s Board of Directors on their GOLD form of proxy or GOLD VIF. For shareholders who have not yet voted, to ensure your vote is counted, please vote using the GOLD form of proxy or VIF and submit prior to 5:00 p.m. (Toronto time) on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Please vote all GOLD forms of proxy or GOLD VIFs that you receive to ensure that all of your Common Shares are counted. You should discard any blue management proxies or VIFs that you receive.
