Bridgeport names new school principals
BRIDGEPORT — In a much anticipated move, the principal of Bassick High School is changing once again.
Schools Superintendent Aresta Johnson announced Thursday that Joseph Raiola will be the new principal at Bassick in the fall, replacing Byron Williams, who was appointed to that job last summer.
Raiola, previously an assistant principal at Harding, had tried for the Bassick job last year and was the pick of both the School Governance Council and teachers. Johnson, however, went with Williams.
Williams had his supporters as well, with a group of about 20 students, parents and community members holding a rally for him in front of city hall a week ago. Administrators were called into central office last month and formal notices of the changes were sent to them by August 1.
Other new principals announced Thursday include Christina Moore at Columbus School, Tina Peloso-Ulreich at Wilbur Cross School, and Giovanna Ramos at Thomas Hooker School. In addition, Angela Garafalo has been named the supervisor of the Bridgeport Learning Center.
