Mountie, kindergarten teacher found dead in horse trailer

PINCHER CREEK, Alberta (AP) _ More than 30 police searched for clues Wednesday in the slaying of one of their colleagues, a sergeant found shot and killed along with the kindergarten teacher he had been dating.

The slain Mountie, Sgt. Peter Roger Sopow, was in charge of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment in Fort Macleod, in the southwest corner of Alberta.

Police began searching for Sopow, 52, after he failed to report to work Monday. His body and the body of Lorraine McNab were found Monday in a horse trailer on McNab’s property in Pincher Creek, 30 miles from Fort Macleod.

``This is a complex investigation,″ the statement said. ``There are several leads being followed up.″

McNab, 47, taught at Canyon Elementary School. The principal, Jean Murray, said students were baffled at news of her death.

McNab, who was divorced, lived with her two teen-age children, police said. Sopow, also divorced, has two adult children.
