Off-duty Richmond officer hurt in ‘accidental’ shooting

March 31, 2018

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Richmond police say an off-duty officer and another person were taken to a hospital after an accidental shooting.

Police spokeswoman Koury Wilson tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch officers found two victims around midnight Friday suffering from injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

One of the victims was an off-duty officer who’s been with the department for 12 years.

Wilson says the firearm was not the officer’s service weapon, and the person who accidentally discharged the gun was known to the other victim.

Police didn’t release the identities of those involved or give further details about what happened.
