Fitchburg Police Searching for SUV That Struck Pedestrian and Drove Off

FITCHBURG -- Police are searching for an SUV that struck a pedestrian on Abbott Avenue on Wednesday evening and subsequently left the scene, according to a press release issued by the police department Thursday.

Police said at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, the SUV, believed to be either a 1999-2006 Chevy Tahoe, Silverado or Suburban, struck a 52-year-old city resident in the area of 101 Abbott Ave., leaving him with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The resident was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment.

The suspect vehicle that fled the scene was described as a dark SUV-type vehicle sustained front-end damage.

The city’s Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and with the assistance of The Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash. It is an active and ongoing investigation.
