This guy’s a ‘Ringer’ for Starr

September 21, 2018

Michael Callahan doesn’t have to do anything special to portray Ringo Starr in upcoming concerts in Zumbrota and Lanesboro. All he has to do is act naturally.

Callahan, a drummer just like Starr, is “Ringer Star,” in a tribute to the Beatles drummer and his music. As a member of the greatest pop band ever, Ringo was the voice of songs like “Yellow Submarine,” “A Little Help From My Friends,” and “Act Naturally.”

For someone who didn’t sing much (or very well) and rarely hogged the spotlight, Starr (born Richard Starkey) had a surprisingly successful solo career after the Beatles broke up in 1970. His solo hits included “It Don’t Come Easy,” “Photograph,” and “You’re Sixteen.”

Callahan has had a long career playing drums in Beatles and classic rock cover bands. But in 2013, he took his Ringer Star show on the road, performing in the U.S. and Canada, as well as Ringo’s hometown of Liverpool.

Callahan will be backed by the Lost Faculties for the shows Sept. 28 at the St. Mane Theatre in Lanesboro and Sept. 29 at the State Theatre in Zumbrota.
