A large, and highly visible, piece of vacant land in southwest Fort Wayne may not stay vacant much longer.
Property owner Tom Kelley, president of Kelley Auto Real Estate and Kelley Automotive Group, Fort Wayne, and Kyle Witwer, representing Witwer Construction, Fort Wayne, have filed an application to develop 59 acres to the west and north of the Menards store in the 6300 block of Illinois Road.
The land can be seen from Interstate 69, which is directly to its west.
Called Illinois Crossing, the development would fit existing general commercial and limited industrial zoning, according to the application, which seeks approval of a primary development plan but no rezoning.
Eight lots plus stormwater management areas appear on the site plan filed with the application.
No buildings appear on the site plan, but in March, Kelley announced he was spending 50 million to relocate five dealerships to lots acquired from John Menard.
