NEW YORK (AP) _ Boomer Esiason, a star quarterback in the NFL for 14 years, is branching out beyond sports.

ABC said Monday that Esiason, who retired from football after last season, will be a co-host for the Miss America pageant Sept. 19 from Atlantic City, N.J. His co-host has not yet been selected.

Esiason, who will make his debut as a commentator on ABC's ``Monday Night Football'' this season, played in the Pro Bowl four times during his NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals. He led the Bengals into the Super Bowl against San Francisco in the 1988-89 season.

Esiason was a studio analyst for ABC Sports' coverage of the 1996 and 1997 NFL playoffs.
