Six Children Die In Early Morning Trailer Fire
LAROSE, La. (AP) _ Fire that roared through a house trailer early this morning killed six children ranging in age from 9 months to 12 years in this rural town about 30 miles southwest of New Orleans.
Another fire in Delaware killed five family members.
In the trailer, ″one body was found in the hallway leading to the bathroom, one in the kitchen and four were in a bedroom,″ said Detective Paul Lirette, of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Department. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Johnell Davis, 34, and Lorianne Davis, 29, escaped from the trailer with two of their children, Denise, 7, and Justin, the 9-month-old twin brother of one of the children who died.
Johnell Davis suffered numerous burns, said Lafourche Parish Chief Deputy Eddie Duet. Mrs. Davis was treated and released and the children were being examined, he said.
A burning staircase prevented three children, ages 1 to 4, and two adults from escaping a fire of undetermined cause this morning in a townhouse near Glasgow, Del. A fourth child was at school, said officials, who did not immediately release the family’s name.
