NEW YORK (AP) _ New York Yankees outfielder Rickey Henderson should be back in the starting lineup in two or three days after being hit with a pitch on the left elbow, Manager Billy Martin said Monday night.

X-rays taken of Henderson's elbow at New York University Medical Center were negative, but there was some swelling, Martin said.

Henderson was hit in the elbow of his throwing arm by the first pitch from Mike Smithson in the first inning of Monday night's 9-8 victory over the Minnesota Twins. He had to leave the game in the second inning.

He was taken immediately to NYU Medical Center to be examined.

Henderson started the season on the disabled list with a sprained ankle. He did not play until about two weeks into the season.
