Tourists Surprised by Jogging President
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Two young women sunbathing alongside the Potomac River didn’t bat an eye Wednesday when President Bush and his entourage jogged right by them.
Bush appreciatively eyed the women, smiled and apologized, ″You’re on national television, ladies. Sorry about that 3/8″
Bikini-clad Dana Habeck, 22, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Linda Kreider, 33, of Philadelphia, who wore a one-piece suit, laughed and told reporters they didn’t mind the attention.
″It’s great,″ said Ms. Kreider.
The pair was soaking up the sun at the isolated eastern end of Hain’s Point in East Potomac Park on the banks of the Potomac River when Bush came jogging by with Secret Service agents and several running partners, including Rep. Larry Hopkins, R-Ky., and Brit Hume, a White House correspondent for ABC News.
The president, wearing shorts and a Houston Police Department T-shirt, got in 2 1/2 miles on a sunny afternoon.
Hopkins told reporters later that he had already jogged four miles Wednesday morning when he got the invitation to run with the president. He decided not to pass up the opportunity.
