PGA Golfer Frank Lickliter Arrested
DULUTH, Ga. (AP) _ Professional golfer Frank Lickliter Jr. is accused of pulling a pocket knife on a man in a crowded sports bar earlier this month.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, Gwinnett County police confirmed Tuesday.
Lickliter brandished the knife at a 21-year-old Lawrenceville man that accidentally bumped into Diane Lynn Owen, Lickliter’s girlfriend, and then bumped the golfer’s elbow, according to a police report.
Witnesses told police the man _ Frederick Barrett _ apologized after both bumping incidents.
Police said Lickliter, 28, of Franklin, Ohio, did not attempt to use the knife, which he at first denied having. Later, Lickliter told police, ``He just made me mad and I wasn’t going to tolerate it,″ according to police reports.
Lickliter was arrested following the Oct. 4 confrontation at Barnacle’s, police said. He was released from jail the next day on $5,000 bond.
An investigator in the district attorney’s office said it is too early to say if the case will go to a grand jury.
Lickliter’s lawyer, Tom Clements, did not return a phone call Tuesday.
Lickliter had played in the PGA Tour’s Buick Challenge at Pine Mountain, south of Atlanta, the day before the incident. This year, he has earned $202,716 in PGA events.
