May 9, 2019

FLORENCE, S.C. – An infant was surrendered Saturday and placed under the protection of medical professionals at McLeod Regional Medical Center, according to Florence County Department of Social Services officials.

Upon the information and belief of the agency, the child falls under the jurisdiction for “Daniel’s Law,” the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act.

Born on May 2, the baby is a black female weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 19½ inches in length at birth. The infant is now in DSS custody.

Under the Safe Haven Act, a permanency planning hearing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on June 11 at the Florence County Family Court, City-County Complex, 181 N. Irby St., Florence, SC 29501. Any person wishing to assert parental rights regarding the infant must do so at this hearing.
