No experience? No problem
The Free Christian Center has scheduled auditions for its second annual community play.
Auditions for “Life is a Stem from Collard Greens” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. May 31 at TFCC, located at 111 E. Oak St., Kankakee.
Director and playwright Owaysha Williams, of Kankakee, is seeking auditions of all ages, genders, races and religions.
Williams’ goal is to bring free community theatre with a greater purpose to Kankakee, so no prior acting experience is required. Instead, Williams is seeking dedicated persons with a willingness to work hard while having fun.
Last year, Williams unveiled her first original production, “God Was Taking A Nap,” which she also wrote, directed and acted in. The one-night-only performance on Nov. 17 was so well-received, the center added an additional show date on Dec. 1.
As Williams told the Daily Journal last year, The Free Christian Center boasts only a small group of members, but Williams and Pastor Christopher L. Clark are confident the upcoming play will mirror last year’s success.
“This is the little church that does big things,” Williams said.
All potential cast members must be available to consistently attend rehearsals, which will be held every other Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the center until the performance date.
“Life is a Stem from Collard Greens” will tentatively be performed Oct. 19 at The Free Christian Center.
