House Fire Kills Three Children
HOUSTON (AP) _ Three young children were killed in a blaze that sent ″fire shooting out″ of a house warmed by a space heater during a record cold snap, fire department officials said.
The cause of the Sunday evening fire was still under investigation. The overnight low was a record 16 degrees.
District Fire Chief Charles Pangarakis said that even though firefighters reached the house a minute after the blaze was reported at 6:34 p.m., ″the front end of the house had fire shooting out of it.″
The dead were identified as Joshua Earl Davis, 1; Patricia Lawanna Davis, 3; and Paul Ladean Davis, 4.
The children’s bodies were found in the living room.
Their mother, Cheryl Larue Davis, said she was outside when she saw flames coming through the roof and went to a neighbor’s house to call the fire department.
Neighbors said the family had lived in the East Houston house only about a week.
