Man Killed In Rollover Crash In Kingston

KINGSTON — A 67-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash that took place Thursday night, according to authorities. Gary Walters of Shavertown died of multiple traumatic injuries in the crash on West Union Street, according to the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office. No autopsy was planned. The crash took place about 8:50 p.m. Thursday, as Walters’ 2015 Nissan sedan was traveling along West Union Street toward Wyoming Avenue. The car was traveling “extremely fast” when it hit the curb in the area of Floristry by Carmen Bolin and went airborne, Kingston police Sgt. Sam Blaski said. The car crashed into a greenhouse at the business and witnesses reported it rolled several times before coming to rest on its side in the drive-through of the PNC Bank at 664 Wyoming Ave., Blaski said. What caused Walters to lose control of the vehicle on a side street with a speed limit of 25 mph remained under investigation. “We have to figure out what happened,” Blaski said. Detectives on Friday were seeking surveillance video from the area to try and figure out what happened, and were seeking additional witnesses who saw the crash, he said.
