Dixon officer earns a promotion: Honorary captain for the Bears
Dixon school resource officer Mark Dallas and Chicago Bears tight end Ben Braunecker run onto the field Monday at Soldier Field in Chicago. The Bears became Dallas’ cheerleaders for the night when they celebrated the Dixon police officer by promoting him to honorary captain of the team during their game against the Seattle Seahawks. The team honored Dallas for his actions during the May 16 school shooting at Dixon High School. Dallas defused a potential tragedy when he chased Matthew Milby after the DHS senior fired at teacher Andrew McKay in Lancaster Gym during graduation practice. Milby took off running when confronted by Dallas, who shot him in the upper shoulder and hip. Milby was arrested near his car; no one else was injured.
