Former mine entrances uncovered in Export
People heading to Charles R. Conway’s district court building in Export likely didn’t realize that a piece of borough history was buried in the nearby hillside.
As his Eagle project, Boy Scout Troy Florian of Murrysville organized a crew to clear weeds and uncover the former entrance to the Westmoreland Coal Company’s No. 2 mine.
Through a grant, the Export Historical Society will erect an informational sign near the entrance detailing the area’s history and importance to the borough.
