Doris LaVerne Cooper Hastings, 90, of Greenville, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 18, 2018) at Cedarhurst Senior Citizens’ Living in Greenville.
She was born Nov. 27, 1927, in East Alton, the daughter of Odis and Grace Smith Cooper. Doris married Howard Hastings, of Sorento, on June 1, 1947. He preceded her in death.
LaVerne taught elementary school in a one-room school outside of Sorento from 1945 to 1952, then fifth grade in Marseilles from 1969 to 1974, and finished her career in Marengo from 1975 to 1989, where she retired. She traveled the world wide and lived her life as a servant of God.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Lindell Cooper.
Surviving are her children, Janet (Charles) Sherburne, of Downers Grove, Carol (Greg) Schultz, of San Jose, Calif., Linda (David) Cook, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dale (Michelle) Hastings, of Milford; grandchildren, Nickolas (Stacy), Michal and Justin (Nichole); great-grandchildren, Charlie and Eli; brother, Dennis Cooper; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 201 S. Main St., Sorento, IL 62086. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Sorento Presbyterian Church, 107 W. Taylor St., Sorento, IL 62086, with the Rev. Ralph Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.
