MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) _ Lucas Glover and Chris Riley are the surprise first-round leaders at the PGA Championship. Both shot six-under 66s. That’s one ahead of Billy Andrade. Stewart Cink, J.J. Henry, Luke Donald, Henrik Stenson, Davis Love III and Robert Allenby are two shots off the lead. Cink and Henry are also trying secure Ryder Cup berths.
Masters winner and defending PGA champion Phil Mickelson played with British Open titleholder Tiger Woods and U.S. Open winner Geoff Ogilvy. All three carded 69s. The same threesome of major winners is together today, but they don’t tee off until 2:35 p.m. EDT.
Olin Browne fired the 36th hole-in-one at the PGA since 1970 when he aced number-17.
And, in what could turn into a Cinderella-type story, Billy Mayfair shot a 3-under 69 just two weeks after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer.
